The fragrance industry has been part of my family since 1947, during the partition of Pakistan. From a small retail shop in India my great grandfather moved to Lahore and later to Karachi bringing along this knowledge of perfumery with him. Growing up, I had never been particularly drawn to Ittar; in fact, I found the strong scents overwhelming and often avoided them altogether. I grew up with severe allergies that could leave me without my sense of smell for days. After my graduation, during the era of Covid. I had joined my father in the fragrance business to enhance my knowledge of business all together. My passion was hard to come by as I had often related Ittar to arabic perfumes slowly learning that Ittar meant “Fragrance without alcohol.” My Journey began with my first visit to Beauty World in Dubai, a massive exhibition for all things fragrances. From seeing fragrances as an ingredient in almost every single item in our lives such as Shampoos, Soaps, Air Fresheners and even cleaning items my interest began to spark. I began to realize that Ittar is not only confined in a small box but a rather huge industry. Furthermore, I started noticing the art of how different ingredients can be used to make such a unique smell and fragrances can tell a story, help you relive a memory and alter moods. After countless years of learning ingredients, what they smell like and how to combine them, my allergies were fading. I started to get more and more sensitive to smells as I started training my nose. My perfume collection kept increasing and I had found my passion. Diving head first into my passion I decided to expand onto the family business by creating a brand of my own, this brand now known as Scent in a Bottle. Working together with perfumers in Turkey, my goal was to be one of the first Niche fragrance brands in Pakistan that focus on creating unique blends at rather affordable prices. These unique items include but are not limited to Seaweed, Oakmoss, Vanilla, Violet Leaf and Sandalwood. With this new found passion, I hope to help others experience the art of fragrances.
